Beth Kaufman's Stand-up Guide to Surviving Breast Cancer This book can help people keep a sense of humor through cancer treatment even on the worst days. This is a great book for newly diagnosed patients, caregivers and survivors alike. This is Beth's personal story of her bout with breast cancer. It is told with humor, yet is poignant. It takes you on a year-long ride from start to finish. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will certainly get your yearly mammograms after reading her story. It is unique in the way it is told from a comedienne's point of view, a stand up guide to getting through 525,600 minutes of a cancer patient's life. Use this book as your "stand up" guide to surviving breast cancer.

Make Mine a Double... A Mastectomy That Is is a comic's take on dealing with a very serious subject. I caught myself laughing several times at Beth's unexpected takes on this challenging life experience. She writes very much from the heart, with honesty, about the struggles of not only accepting a devastating diagnosis, but what it's like undergoing chemotherapy--the hair loss, weight gain, and the rest of the painful things that a patient going through cancer treatment must bear. From one breast cancer survivor to another, I appreciate Beth's sense of humor. I, too, found it helpful to find something to laugh about in the bleakest of situations.
One thing, though, I was ready to issue her a citation for exclamation point abuse, but they did go with her jokes. (I kept picturing her delivering her one-liners with a microphone in hand.)
There is a lot of information and advice in this book for a woman diagnosed with breast cancer. Be warned: Beth is irreverent and will say things you probably won't find in another memoir of this type--she is a comedian, after all.
I wish Beth the best of health for many years.
And if you're reading this, don't forget your monthly self-exams!

Make Mine a Double A Mastectomy That Is Beth Kaufman 9781492197287 Books Reviews
good Book-Funny
Very informative and covered every topic needed. Loved the forms for recording drainage. Very practical and realistic, even though everyone's experience is a little different.
Beth's experience and sense of humor are delightful and I appreciate her sharing her story. I recommend this book, not just to those who have suffered the same situation, but everyone. Her story is inspiring to all.
Beth takes us on a journey that is far to familiar to many. Unfortunately, we all know someone in our lives who are affected in some way by breast cancer. This books helps us to understand exactly what our loved ones are going through and for those battling cancer, they will truly "get it". Thankfully, Beth finds humor every step of the way!! Loved it! So inspiring, insightful and heartfelt. We learn that negative experiences can change us for the better and shape who we become. For sure, this book will help many embarking on this journey and will hopefully help them to find laughter along the way!
Beth is a wonderful writer....I cried....I laughed...I enjoyed her book immensely and recommend it to any woman who likes a laugh during a difficult time...believe me,,,she's been there and done that....no punches pulled....
Everyone should read this book. Even If
You never have to suffer through cancer diagnosis and treatment everyone should
Know how to treat people in their lives going through it
Reading through this book, I found myself actually chuckling out loud several times. While Beth does what she can to find the humor in life, and a cancer diagnosis and subsequent battle, it's not all light-heartedness and laughs. My heart ached while I read about all the people who seemed to fade into the woodwork during her cancer treatments. I come from a different angle, the previvor angle, and had a similar experience with people who I 'thought' should be there for me, who just weren't, and so in that way, I could really relate to the feelings of anger, hurt and betrayal Beth wrote about. I love that, when writing this book, her main focus is on seeing it all as positively as she can without pretending away the negative aspects of dealing with a BRCA and cancer diagnosis. Reading Beth's book made me look at my own past (and how I too, felt abandoned by some friends during my time of need) but also in how I react to people NOW, going through tough times. Thanks to Beth for the candor, the humor, the explanation of the process of chemo, and just for letting readers take a close, inside look of what she went. I would recommend this to others.
